iPhone 17 Discounts After the iPhone 18 Launch Are Mostly Bill Credits, Not Price Cuts

Carriers are advertising up to $1,100 or more off iPhone 17 models now that the iPhone 18 lineup is out. Almost all of it requires trading in a device and signing up for a new line or plan — the sticker price hasn't moved.

iPhone 17 Discounts After the iPhone 18 Launch Are Mostly Bill Credits, Not Price CutsDeals

The short answer

  • Following the iPhone 18 launch, carriers are advertising trade-in discounts of up to $1,100 to $1,200 off iPhone 17 models.
  • T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T and Best Buy tie their biggest discounts to trading in an eligible device plus a new line or unlimited plan; Apple's own trade-in credit tops out around $700.
  • These are bill credits spread over 24 to 36 months of financing, not reductions to the phone's list price, which is unchanged.
  • One straightforward markdown exists: Total Wireless is selling the iPhone 17e for $399, down from $599, with no trade-in required.

With the iPhone 18 lineup now on shelves, carriers are running ads promising up to $1,100 or more off iPhone 17 models. Read the fine print and nearly all of that is a bill credit tied to a trade-in and a new line or plan — not a lower price tag.

What's actually being offered

  • T-Mobile: iPhone 17e, iPhone 17, iPhone Air or iPhone 17 Pro free with an eligible trade-in and an unlimited plan; up to $1,100 off the iPhone 17 Pro Max under the same terms.
  • Verizon: up to $830 off select iPhone 17 models with a new line or trade-in; up to $1,000 off iPhone Air.
  • AT&T: iPhone 17 for as little as $3 a month with a trade-in and unlimited plan; up to $1,100 off the iPhone 17 Pro Max with a trade-in.
  • Best Buy: up to $1,100 off through trade-in.
  • Apple's own store: up to $700 in trade-in credit, depending on the device traded in.

Why this isn't a price cut

Apple's list prices for the iPhone 17 lineup haven't changed. Every one of the discounts above is a bill credit applied over a 24- to 36-month installment plan, and it only shows up in full if the trade-in device qualifies and the buyer takes a new line or a specific plan tier. Walk in with an older or damaged trade-in, or keep an existing plan, and the discount shrinks or disappears.

The one real markdown

Total Wireless, a prepaid carrier, is selling the iPhone 17e outright for $399, down from $599 — a genuine price cut with a three-month plan requirement but no trade-in needed.

The bottom line: if a trade-in device is in good shape and a new line or plan upgrade is already on the table, these offers can be worth real money. Buying an iPhone 17 outright, without a trade-in, costs the same as it did before the iPhone 18 arrived.
