Corrections policy
How we handle errors.
Our approach
We correct errors on the page where they appeared, promptly, and we say what changed. We do not quietly edit an article to remove a mistake.
Categories
We distinguish between three kinds of change.
- Correction: a factual error is fixed, with a dated note describing the error.
- Clarification: the facts were correct but capable of being misread; the wording is improved and noted.
- Update: new information is added to a still-accurate article, with a revised date.
Requesting a correction
Send the URL, the specific passage and the source that contradicts it via the contact page. We aim to respond within five working days.
