The short answer

  • The CPSC recalled about 16,000 Branch-brand Ergonomic Chairs in the US (plus roughly 180 in Canada) on September 3, 2026, after 11 reports of the backrest detaching from the frame. No injuries have been reported.
  • Affected chairs were made in Thailand between September 10, 2025 and April 22, 2026, and sold in eight color combinations for $320 to $350 through BranchFurniture.com, Amazon, West Elm, the Container Store and Office Depot from December 2025 through July 2026.
  • The fix is a free repair kit, not a refund: a replacement backrest, three bolts and an Allen key. Owners must submit photos of the manufacture-date label and the removed backrest to get one.
  • The manufacture date is printed under the seat cushion, so owners can check it against the affected window before requesting a kit.

Branch, the direct-to-consumer office furniture brand, is recalling its Ergonomic Chair after the backrest detached from the frame in 11 reported cases. The Consumer Product Safety Commission posted the recall on September 3, 2026.

The hazard

The CPSC says the backrest can detach from the chair, posing a fall hazard. Branch and the CPSC have logged 11 reports of the detachment happening; no injuries have been reported so far.

Branch is offering a free repair kit — a replacement backrest, three mounting bolts and an Allen key — rather than a refund or replacement chair. To request one, owners submit photos of the manufacture-date label and the detached backrest through customersupport@branchfurniture.com or branchfurniture.com/recall.
