About 2,200 pressure washers sold under the Workbless name over the past 15 months are missing a safety feature that's supposed to be standard on anything you plug in and spray water through: a ground-fault circuit interrupter. The Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled the units on Aug. 20. Meridians has not tested a Workbless pressure washer; the details below come directly from the CPSC recall notice and a companion roundup from ConsumerAffairs.

What's wrong with them

CPSC's notice is direct about the hazard: "The recalled pressure washers lack an integral ground-fault circuit-interrupter (GFCI) and an adequate-length power cord, posing serious risks of injury or death from shock and electrocution hazards." A GFCI shuts off power within milliseconds if it detects current leaking somewhere it shouldn't — like through a person holding a wet electrical device. Its absence, combined with a shorter cord that may push people toward extension cords or older outdoor wiring, is what makes this recall a shock hazard rather than a routine defect.

CPSC and Workbless are asking owners to stop using the washer immediately, then cut the power cord in half while it's unplugged and photograph the destroyed unit. Email that photo to service@workbless.net (or call 833-725-3151, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific, Monday through Friday) to arrange a full refund. Don't resell or donate the unit — the hazard travels with it.
